Avril Lavigne Is Getting Her Groove Back, But At What Cost
She needs to say see you later boy!
If two decades ago you came into my bedroom while I was deep in my emo phase, with Under My Skin on repeat, sat me down, and told 15 year-old me that Avril Lavigne was dating Kylie Jenner’s ex-boyfriend, Tyga, I would probably say “literally what the fuck is a Kylie Jenner and how did you get in my house?”
If you had told me that today, however, in the 2023rd year of our lord, I still wouldn’t have believed you, and yet, much to my dismay, here we are.
One thing about me is that I love a story about a woman getting her groove back. I love when Angela Bassett did it in the aptly titled How Stella Got Her Groove Back, I loved when Mrs. Robinson did it in The Graduate, even when Susan Sarandon did it in Alfie (the Jude Law version), but Avril, mama, let’s research.
If you haven’t heard—and to be fair, it isn’t widespread news, or a religiously covered thing—Avril Lavigne is dating Tyga, Kylie Jenner‘s ex-boyfriend. If you ask me what Tyga was famous for besides one popular song in 2012, and dating the young Jenner, I couldn’t tell you. Although he also dated, and has a child with Blac Chyna who also dated and has a child with Rob Kardashian, who is Kylie Jenner’s brother. Girl. This is more keeping up with the Kardashians than I thought I’d ever do.
While it seems like there’s this huge generational divide between them, the wild thing about this Avril and Tyga (Ayga? Tavril?) coupling is that there isn’t a crazy age gap between them, she’s just 3 years his senior. But there is an 8 year age gap between he and Kylie who he dated when she was 18 (and presumably before that too) but if you are like me, you know Miss Lavigne from her relationship to Canadian Prince of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger who she was only married to for two years (2013-2015) but somehow it seems WAY longer?
I’m always incredibly interested in how celebrity couples come together, especially when the dating pattern isn’t really a pattern, and someone doesn’t have a type. Doesn’t EVERYONE have a type? Whether you like tall people or short people or introverts or extroverts, or people who are obsessed with books who follow you around the world, and show up at your door just to say “hello you” isn’t there SOMETHING that draws you to another person that’s a common theme in your relationships?
Anyway, I am all for the ladies bumping and grinding but—and not slutshame—pls girls be careful, especially with community dick (looking at you Pete Davidson!)
