Introducing Benoit 'Bend It Over' Blanc
According to Knives Out director Rian Johnson — who spells his name like he’s that one girl in middle school who is DESPERATELY trying to be different ( You’ll NEVER be quiche Ja’mie! ) lead detective Benoit Blanc, is a homosexual. Now, Knives Out is a film I didn’t enjoy very much (if at all) but everyone lost their minds over it so maybe this is good? Finally, the random, in-passing representation we needed! Slay.
And it’s not just me, truly everyone who is anyone is talking about it
Does this count as outing someone? I mean he’s a fictional character, but everyone is saying “he solves murders, of course he’s gay” and strangely — that kind of tracks. Some other notable gay detectives are Velma from Scooby-Doo, Sherlock Holmes, Ace Ventura (although he’s mostly a Pet Detective), I mean the list goes on and on. He didn’t follow in the footsteps of the stalker from The Bachelorette, Colton Underwood, but according to close sources (me) he’s opted for Ellen’s route in TIME.
At any rate, I’m happy for him, and I’m glad that he — like the knives — is out. Also, I don’t know how I’ve never known this — but Rian Johnson is 5’5.
Before we get to this week’s mentions — I realized that I talk a LOT about fashion over on Twitter (much to the dismay of MANY stans whose favs cannot dress), but I only ever really mention it here in passing. As such, I’m thinking of doing a weekly fashion round-up style addition to the weekly postings, OR doing a separate paid post outside of Monday and Thursday’s posts. If you’ve ever gone through a breakup — whether real, or imaginary like that time you had a really intense connection with a dark-haired, green-eyed character from a TV show about vampires, but The CW killed them off because they didn’t want to see you happy and you THOUGHT they were progressive, but I guess not THAT progressive — then Monica Heisey’s Really Good, Actually is for you. It’s one woman’s hilarious (and sometimes sad) account of how her relationship ended and its aftermath. It’s so full of wit, and charm, and I loved it. It’s not published until January 17th, 2023, but you can pre-order. And that’s what I suggest you do! And obviously you should listen to me.
I know it’s only October but Advent Calendars are already being released and if you know anything about advent calendars then you know how quickly they sell out! I’ll be creating a Twitter thread with my tiered recs from basic to bougie. Watch this space!
