Four score and seven years ago—the week after I started this newsletter, a couple things happened.
The Queen ( of England, not Beyoncé) died—obviously she knew she couldn’t compete with me, not many can!
And the land of gondolas and Attenzione Pickpoquet blessed us with Don’t Worry Darling’s Venice Film Festival press junket which became one of the most chaotic press junkets for one of the most drama filled movies we’ve seen in quite some time, and I’m just talking about BEHIND the scenes.
For long time readers, you may remember this (updated) required reading, but if you’re new here, Bienvenu!!! I wish I could enjoy this post for the first time the way you’re about to.
So much has happened in Venice. Harold and Olivia broke up IMMEDIATELY after the Film Festival, and if we’re being honest, they were already keeping their distance so as not to arouse more suspicion of improprieties on set, “Miss Flo” skipped the photo-call and interviews, but still managed to strut around her hotel terrace with an aperol spritz, and later and slay the red carpet, I wrote more on those looks for InStyle, here.
The press tour also gave us this, and I mean—you can’t argue with that!
I mean just LOOOOOOK at my BOY!!!
A couple weeks after, the movie was released, and—it wasn’t as terrible as everyone was expecting, but it wasn’t great! Were there a million plot-holes? Yes. Did they essentially scrap all the scenes/storyline of the only black woman in the film? Also yes. But Chris Pine was in it, and I did love the costuming. Olivia Wilde looked STUNNING.
I will say, he gave a better performance in My Policeman, the film that was released a week after DWD.
Also remember #Spitgate where Harold Styles literally SPIT on Chris Pine and everyone tried to say it didn’t happen???? Videos are forever babes!
Thank you for subscribing to Now That I Mention It—and now that I mention it, thank you for being a friend.
This was actually a very important moment for me as a reader of your journalism, like something truly locked in here for me regarding Chris Pine hair analysis. I remember it fondly.
