I Don't Like Dua Lipa's Curated Collaboration With *Checks Notes* Google Maps

Curation will be the fall of civilization

I like Dua Lipa.

I like that she is always on vacation, I love that she’s bringing literacy to people who may otherwise not be avid readers, and I love that she’s a popstar who is actually using her voice to stand up for what she believes in when it comes to politics.

What I don’t like, is her collaboration with Google Maps, showing her favourite places around the world—I dislike it for the same reason I dislike gift and travel guides. It’s making already incurious people who are DEEPLY dependent on an algorithm (and ChatGPT) even more incuriousER. Bring back wonder! Everyone will be at the same restaurants, and galleries, and bars because Dua Lipa went there, not because those places are even their style, or taste. And it gets worse.
