When news of the conscious uncoupling of Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles dropped I thought two things:

  1. Taylor Swift didn’t know how right she was when she shakily sang the lyrics “There goes, the last great American dynasty.” What a clairvoyant, an oracle. Tay-Tay really looked at Olivia Wilde, leaned into the microphone, her Pat McGrath lipstick smeared over the foam batting and sang “And the town said how did a middle class divorceeeeee do it.” SHRIEK.

  2. I also thought: It’s about time they admitted it. We all knew it was coming, and when it arrived “sources close to the pair” couldn’t keep their mouths shut.

    I know this song wasn’t actually about Olivia Wilde and Harold Styles, and that ‘Folklore’ came out just a few months after H+L got together, but we can pretend it is, because like Brandy in Rogers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, the shoe fits!
