Always Remember Her This Way: Dame Maggie Smith
Plus: Eric Adams indicted, Cardi B cheating back, Kim Richards locked up, + more
Always Remember Us This Way is a series I started here at Now That I Mention It to remember the people, things, places, and ideas that made us feel something. Today, Dame Maggie Smith, queen of the stage and screen has passed away, and there is no one more memorable in all of our childhoods (and adulthoods, I swear she been old forever) than she was. As such, the first half of this Friday post is dedicated to her.
Whether you know her from her countless stage appearances before you were born, or her spectacular films from the 90s, such as Sister Act, Sister Act II: Back In The Habit (ICONIC play on words), First Wives Club, or even Hook—there was a role that touched your life, and hopefully, if you have taste, it was not the fucking the Harry Potter films. GROW UP!
At any rate, so many of our legends are reaching a certain age where it’s just a matter of time before the New York Times is reporting on them (I know that sounds extremely morbid, but it’s true) with an ugly photo no less. Whenever legend dies I think they always want to be remembered by how many lives they touched with their performances, and also how insanely hot they were. Thankfully, she can say both.
An absolutely perfect example of how Dame Maggie Smith will be remembered. A+ anecdote1 from Ian McKellen, and Hugh Jackman was there too, she was really friends with all the gay people.
Honourable Mention
Eric Adams Indicted
Extremely lousy, bald-headed mayor Eric Adams was indicted yesterday, for fraud and taking bribes among a slew of other things—and I have always said that his ass wasn’t doing any work because he was always out in the clubs, rubbing up on celebrities when he should’ve been doing literally anything and that office, mind you he shouldn’t have even BEEN the mayor in the first place because he lives in New Jersey! I can go on and on about this and how much I hate him but I digress because it’s Friday. Today is about peace
Cardi B Is Cheating Back, Finally
After announcing her divorce, and then going back to future ex-husband Offset, reconciling, then getting pregnant again, and announcing she was pregnant and divorcing him on the same day, Cardi B is finally putting her red bottoms where her mouth is, and walking out of that marriage. *Ramona Singer THANK GOD reaction.vid*
Not only that, but she revealed (whether joking or not) that she cheated on Offset while she was pregnant with their child—which, is it really cheating if they were separated? THEY WERE ON A BREAK! Say what you want about it but he has been cheating on her during every single pregnancy so do I blame her? No. It’s not right, but it’s okay.
Gimme Gimme Pilaf Moore
No single thing has my interest more than Moo Deng at this point, but Pilaf Moore is very close. She was seen with a guest at The Substance premiere and Q&A at BFI and I just have to say that she was looking absolutely stunning. The blowout was spectacular. Truly can’t say enough good things about her.
Old Pacino
Al Pacino’s sugar baby knows exactly what she’s doing by trying to get him to blow out these candles because she know damn well he don’t have the lung capacity for that. One cough too many is going to take him out. I’m not sure if she will inherit anything if/when he dies, aside from a stipend for child support since they aren’t married, but adding Al Pacino’s Baby Mama to your CV is cool, I guess?
Ryan Murphy’s Monopoly
There is literally no one else who could rival him, besides Shonda Rhimes, but even then Ryan Murphy is truly the king of TV right now. With Grotesquerie, Monsters, 9-1-1 (both the OG and Lone Star), the Aaron Hernandez story, and probably a bunch of other fucking shows that I can’t remember, that man is truly changing what it means to have unhinged gay stories on the small screen. And is changing true stories right? No, but again it’s also okay because Hollywood should’ve been green lighting a bunch of other stuff from the beginning. Sorry Menendez bros, you deserve better!
Don’t Mention It
Lady
GagaHahaI really don’t want to say anything mean about this but also I don’t want to see that Joker movie anyway so it makes sense that its companion album is terrible. The fact that it opens with Good Morning from Singin’ in the Rain, and she keeps adding the G in morning when it is canonically morNIN’, it makes me upset I don’t want to talk about it anymore. Listen to this album at your own distress. I will however, wait patiently for the true LG7.
Kim Richards Placed On Psychiatric Hold
I am not a housewives fan per se, I merely dip in and out of seasons, when something gets interesting, (even though when I was at Sundance a couple years ago, the one housewife from Salt Lake City, who has the tequila brand was there, and I found that extremely weird) but as of today, Kim Richards has been placed on psychiatric hold. Hopefully she gets well. I have always liked her takedown of Lisa Rinna.
Fritz and Fiona
Fame Hungry Hungry hippos Fritz and Fiona are at it again every time Moo Deng does anything here they come trying to steal the spotlight. They are really trying to make
fetchFritz happen and their time is up. 15 minutes of fame gone, we are moving on and I need them to know that.
Carl Winslow Didn’t Fuck Diddy
It feels crazy that I even have to say this but here we are, Reginald VelJohnson, cop and Father from Family Matters is breaking his silence and going on the record saying that he did not have sex with Diddy. Yes, you read that correctly. Winslow did not have sex with Diddy, the fact that he has to say it is beyond me I feel insane truly, and now you do too.
Janet Jackson MAGA era
I tried to be understanding about whatever she was going through, as her brother just died recently, but Janet Jackson is sadly entering her MAGA era and I don’t know what to do about it. Do I hope she gets better because clearly she has brain worms like RFK, Jr? Or just never listen to Velvet Rope ever again? More on this later
Did I Forget To Mention
I’m leaving the chat open for Now That I Mention It’s Book Club Discussion. How do we feel about book club? Or do we like Cinema Club more? I am very open to hearing myself talk at all times, but I’m looking for ways in we can do real time interaction
Not “antidote” hello Sister Act II callback!
I had this friend at work who had nothing but time to deeply discuss the Jackson family, but she passed and now here I am talking to her in heaven about MAGA Janet.
This is the tidbit I needed to read at the end of a long Friday! I bet that lady was a trip!
